This assignment consists of a PowerPoint, and a report.

For this assignment, you are to select a member of the “Fortune 500”,anddiscuss the organization’s corporate reputation. The company you choose for this should not only be of interest to you, but it should be facing a communication or reputational challenge. As a representative of the company or a communication consultant you have been asked to present (with a PowerPoint) to the company’s senior management team about the reputational issue along with your recommendations on how to address it.

In your presentation, you should cover:

• The issue of concern. The best issues for analysis are those that are more longterm rather than an immediate crisis such as an oil spill. Note that issues are not necessarily threats; they can also be opportunities.

Example: a company wants to build a new warehouse, which will let it increase sales and hire more employees, but there is a possible risk of harming local wetlands.

• The stakeholders affected. Who is affected by this? What are their primary concerns? Who are the most important stakeholders? What is the best way to reach each these stakeholders? What are the messages the company wants to get across?
• Recommendations: What should the company do? What should the priority and focus be?

The items above can be presented in whichever order and format you believe makes it the most informative and persuasive to your audience.

PowerPoint

This should be representative of the company or organization you are discussing.  The company log should appear on each page.  You should only use JPG images, as they are smaller than other image formats.

After the presentation,

Files cannot be larger than 10 MB as you will not be able to submit them via CANVAS.  You will have to split your file and make two submissions.  If in doubt please see me….

References and Research

The Presentation and the Final Report requires a minimum of five references that you MUST cite in your presentation.   You must include one each of the following

• Journal Article that relates to the overall issue.
• A news website (excluding the Huffington Post)

You should plan to use one of the many research databases

Exclusions

You may consult business textbooks, including the BCOM10(and later editions) text, but a business text will not count toward the minimum five references.Other limitations will be discussed in class.  This will include general website, dictionaries and Wikipedia, which do not count.

It is important that you provide credible references to support your ideas and thesis.  If in doubt discuss with your instructor before you present.

Management Briefing Report

Format

Present your materials as a modified formal report. The completed report will be 8-9 pages long and must include specific elements. Each of these elements, with the exception of the introduction, body, and conclusion, will appear on separate pages. The elements include:

As with any business report, you should not write in first person. This is not about whatyou think but about what others have said. The body of the report should be heavilyformatted with section headings and subheadings, white space, lists, and chartsas needed. Make sure to number and label every chart or image in APA format, andthen use those numbers when referring to the visuals in your report.Cartoons and generic images should be avoided, unless they have a direct bearing onthe N-F-P. Use deductive organization overall and on the section and paragraph levelso that reader can glance over it rather than reading it carefully—and still grasp themessage and its main points. Remember that attractive, easy-to-read format.

EVALUATION OF MANAGEMENT REPORT

• Introduction covers purpose. Bottom line first: forecasts/previews the contents, is deductive
• Headings and subheadings (5-8 words) reflect the forecast/preview and indicate contents of sections. Has topic sentence and transitions to next topic
• Paragraphs are short, focus on one topic and begin with the “bottom line” (topic sentence)
• Reasoning is provided why this is an issue that needs greater understanding. Focuses on developing reader’s understanding/acceptance/action/negotiation (you-view)
• Supports claims with adequate evidence and explanation (research)
• Provides charts, graphs and images that are referred to in the text
• References page is in APA format
• Overall arrangement is “top-down” with claims presented before supporting evidence
